2008 Afternoon of Magic

BBBS celebrated the magic made between each volunteer and child at this June event and awards were give to three dedicated volunteers: Julie Humble, Big Sister of the Year; Terry Newton, Big Brother of the Year; and Jacob Walinski, Site-based Big of the Year. Scholarships were promised to 211 students and awarded to 111 graduating seniors. The BBBS Promise Scholarship can be used at any institution of higher education and is matched by several trade schools and universities in Texas.

Participants were entertained by guest speaker, "The Defuser", also known as Jarrett Crippen, Austin Police Department's winner of the Sci-Fi Channel's "Who Wants to Be a Superhero?"
