OverviewIn 1986, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Texas received a major contribution from an anonymous local donor to establish a program to encourage Little Brothers and Sisters to complete high school and pursue further education. Students who are in either a school or community-based mentoring relationship for a year or more are eligible for a $2,000 Promise Scholarship. These students promise to stay in school and graduate, and BBBS promises to reward them with a scholarship to be used toward their post secondary education. The scholarship/educational services program of the BBBS of Central Texas chapter is the first of its kind throughout the 460 nationwide chapters of BBBS. By combining mentoring with educational support we are providing opportunities, resources, and necessary tools to assist the children we serve with achieving an education and helping them to lead productive lives. Big Brothers Big Sisters is making a difference in your community! Thanks to the hard work and dedication of our many volunteers, staff members, and board members, the youth of Central Texas have a lot to get excited about. Tracking youth from 7th to 12th grades, our graduation rate (which includes high school graduation or completion of a G.E.D.) is 87%. In addition, 58% of our Little Brothers and Sisters have used their scholarships for college or trade school.
