Volunteer Programs

To fit all different lifestyles and schedules, we offer a variety of programs. Whether you're a business professional, empty-nester, couple, high school junior or senior....we've got a program for you. We offer quality relationships that will bring joy and magic to the "Little" and to the "Big," as well.

Big Brother or Big Sister, Community-Based

A Community-Based Big is an adult volunteer, age 18 and older, who spends time with his or her Little Brother or Little Sister 3 times a month for a minimum of one year. Our Big Brothers can be matched with a Little Brother and Big Sisters can be matched with either a Little Brother or Little Sister. In addition to the fun you and your Little Brother or Little Sister will have together, Big Brothers Big Sisters sponsors events such as Hobie Day on Lake Travis, as well as offers free tickets to sporting and entertainment events.

Big Brother or Big Sister, School-Based

Bigs in Schools are adult volunteers, age 18 and older, who are matched with Little Brothers or Little Sisters in a local elementary or middle school. Then, one hour each week, usually during lunch, the "Big" engages in various activities with the "Little," such as enjoying lunch together, playing on the playground or just hanging out and talking. Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Texas works with a variety of schools located in Austin, Round Rock, Waco and College Station. With many schools to choose from, it is usually easy to find a school no more than 10-15 minutes away from any volunteer. For the 2008/2009 School Year our greatest need for volunteers lies in the Middle School Mentoring Matters program. Please consider volunteering for this program first.

Middle School Mentoring Matters

The Middle School Mentoring Matters (MMM) is a School to Community Based mentoring program that pairs middle school students in need, with caring adult mentors, in order to build long-term, one-to-one relationships. Funded by Capital Area United Way, the program is a collaborative effort between Communities in Schools of Central Texas (CIS) and Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Texas (BBBS).

Big Brothers Big Sisters brings a proven system for creating and supporting mentoring relationships in the community. CIS brings expertise in supporting youth in the school settings. These two agencies have come together to create a program that enables more young people in Central Texas to finish school, improve their grades, steer clear of drugs and alcohol, and have more positive relationships all around.
